Over the holidays, I had the great pleasure of honoring my best friend and toasting to her success. I made a delicious pot of gumbo and served it with garlic toast.
As guests arrived, I greeted them at the door with the specialty cocktail of the evening, which I named the “Lalla V” – it was a champagne cocktail mixed with pomegranate juice, grenadine and topped off with strawberry rock sugar candy stirrers.
The holidays kicked off to a nice start around here. My Thanksgiving Tasting Event was a success and I hosted friends for my first Thanksgiving meal. I cooked absolutely everything and it was equally exhausting and rewarding. I’ve been cooking so much lately that I haven’t had much time for photography and blogging, but I vow to do better!
It’s cold here and we’re expecting a snow storm tonight so I’ve decided to kick off December with a week of exploring comfort foods. Last night, I covered my beans with water and soaked them overnight so they would cook quickly for tonight’s dinner.
This is the easiest recipe. After soaking the beans overnight, thoroughly rinse them and place them in a pot covered in water. Add 2-3 bouillon cubes and simmer on low. After about 40 minutes or so, add 1/2 cup chopped white onion and 2 garlic cloves, minced.
